Data Breach Sparks Big Concern for Teachers

Another data breach leaked more personal data. This time it was Queensland Education. Sensitive personal info was stolen after hackers gained access to the Dept of Education’s data storage systems. Affected parties are centralised in Queensland and Tasmania.

TPAA National Secretary Edward Schuller has spoken with the ABC to discuss the matter further. TPAA has consistently raised concerns about increasing centralisation of services, decision-making, and data management. These concerns highlight operational inefficiencies, but the heightened risk of safety and security threats if large data systems have their vulnerabilities exposed.

Everyone deserves better protection and the peace of mind that comes with that. This breach reinforces the need for stronger safeguards, greater accountability, and systems that prioritise both security and practical outcomes for educators.
