The response to Australian Teacher Week 2024 has been overwhelming! We received hundreds of nominations from across the country, each highlighting teachers' incredible impact on their students and communities.

Who was nominated by Millie.S 

'Yelena fills up each space she inhabits with joy. Whilst I could go on about her classroom prowess, innovation in her teaching and contribution to creating a safe pace for learning, one of the things that Yelena should be recognised for is her involvement. Each term the boys are given the opportunity to be school representatives in different sports. The school doesn't have external coaches or trainers, it is up to the teachers, purely on a volunteer basis. Each term, Yelena dedicates herself to a team to ensure that boys wishing to represent the school have every chance to do so. Despite not being familiar with all the sports, you wouldn't be able to tell when you see her on the side-line of the field. The students in her team are always proud, respectful and exhibit sportsmanship both on and off the field. You could say the same for many a teacher, but Yelena's energy of passion and fairness fosters a loyalty in her students, that whether a win or loss takes place, they have had fun, played a game they loved and come off the field grateful for a teacher who believes in them. The teams she takes on are not always the highest performing at the outset, but how she maintains and encourages them has created teams of winners, both on the field and in the hearts of many.
