IEPs are essential tools that help teachers support students with diverse learning needs. Whether you’re new to IEPs or refining your process, this session will give you the legal clarity and practical confidence to get it right.
IEPs are a legal requirement under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005. You'll learn how they support your duty of care, help meet NCCD obligations, and foster collaboration with parents, specialists, and school staff. We’ll also cover who needs to be involved in the process and the key timelines you must follow.
This session is designed to make compliance simple and practical. You’ll gain clarity on how to align with AITSL standards, prepare for audits, and document your process effectively — without the stress. You’ll also receive a one-hour PD certificate, a slide deck for reference, and resources to help you apply what you’ve learned.
We’ll unpack the essential elements of a high-quality IEP, including how to capture a student’s strengths and needs, set SMART goals, choose targeted teaching strategies, and outline supports and responsibilities. You’ll also see how to include parent and student input meaningfully, and where to find trusted template examples used in NSW, Victoria, and via the NCCD.
Get the essentials to teach and lead with confidence — while sharpening your knowledge in just one hour.

Robert (Rob) Amedee currently works as a Case Support Person for the TPAA. He commenced this after forty years working in schools. The vast majority of his time was spent in the Catholic and Independent sector, which took him from Brisbane to rural Queensland to Lihir Island in PNG and back.
During this time he spent eleven and a half years as a school principal (across rural and city schools), eleven as an assistant principal, one as curriculum support teacher and the remainder as a class teacher across the full gamut of the socio-economic regions.
Rob had a particular interest in a range of facets in school life: Mathematics where he was involved in a BCE system working party in the 1980s then with QCAA committee in the 2010s; Industrial matters where he served on the QNT IEU council and worked as a Branch and Staff Representative; Child Safety where he worked on a program development committee in the 1980s; Disadvantaged Schools Program in the 1990s; Whole school curriculum development in the 2000-2020s.
Rob is married with four children and two step-children (all adults) with one newborn grandchild and another on the way mid 2025! During his spare time he plays social golf, enjoys board games, sings karaoke and plays guitar. He was once the lead singer in a band when living in PNG.
