Jessica, a member of the TPAA Victoria branch, is the primary carer for her husband and son, both of whom have disabilities requiring a lot of attention and support.
Jessica approached her school principal to discuss continuing flexible working arrangements for the upcoming academic year. During the meeting, Jessica candidly explained her situation, emphasising her need for accommodations to effectively manage her caregiving responsibilities while maintaining her teaching duties.
To her surprise, the principal was unaware of Jessica's current working arrangements. In response, the principal requested Jessica to send an email outlining the specific details of her flexible working needs and existing arrangements.
Understanding the importance of documenting these arrangements formally, Jessica complied and sent the email detailing her requirements and current working schedule.
Despite her efforts, Jessica's email went unacknowledged by the principal, leaving her uncertain about the status of her request and the future of her working conditions.
This feeling of uncertainty led Jessica to contact the TPAA for guidance and support.
Jessica’s assigned case manager advocated for her needs and as a result a flexible working arrangement was acquired.
