Advocacy & Support for Teachers

Occupational violence is a serious concern in educational settings, impacting both educators and students alike.

Marissa, a dedicated teacher from the Queensland branch of TPAA recently faced significant challenges related to occupational violence taking place at her school.

Marissa reached out to TPAA seeking assistance. Marissa was assigned one of our case managers to whom she expressed particular concern about interactions involving two specific students, which she perceived as potentially dangerous.

With the support of TPAA Marissa further communicated her concerns with other specialist staff members, who promptly escalated the matter to the school principal. This collaborative effort aimed to bring attention to the issue and initiate necessary actions to address and prevent further incidents of occupational violence.

Recognising the seriousness of the situation TPAA assisted in lodging a grievance with the school administration. This formal grievance process enabled Marissa to articulate her concerns effectively and advocate for necessary changes to mitigate future risks or dangers in the school environment.

In response to the grievance, the school administration provided Marissa with options as to mitigate any future risks of occupational violence.
